The deferred period is the amount of time, agreed when the policy is taken out, for which you are unable to work before your Income Protection payments can begin.

For example, if you choose an eight-week deferred period, payments generally only become payable after that period has passed, provided the claim meets the policy’s terms. The right deferred period will depend on factors such as your sick pay, savings, and broader financial circumstances.
